2017 OVGA Senior Women’s Intersectional Team
The OVGA Women’s Senior Intersectional event was completed on Monday, August 28th at Pembroke against teams from Pembroke, Algonquin and Metcalfe. Our team was again in tough competition. However, everyone on the team scored at least 2 points. Well done! Although we did not win, we earned enough points to remain in our current division and will be playing at Metcalfe next year. Thanks team – especially our co-Club Captain Jill Finlin who led the scoring by earning 5 points. The Pringles’ Cup was awarded to Anne Queen and her caddie Joanne Gosewitz and was shared with the team. Many thanks to Liz Roberts and Penny Wells who drove to Pembroke to support the team and to offer refreshments. Thanks to Greg and Paul White who also drove to Pembroke to support the team. Thanks also to the caddies – Joan Barriault, Joanne Gosewitz and George Acton. Please see photos below.

2017 Club Championships
The Cedarhill Club Championship was held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 and Sunday, August 20, 2017. Forty (42) members took part in what were two great days of golf with very nice weather. There were 20 ladies and 22 men.
The ladies finished first, starting with the D-Flight. After two days of competition Connie Froats and Penny Wells were tied with a two-day gross score of 231. Connie won the D Class Championship in a one-hole playoff. The C-Class champion is Bev Goold with a two-day gross score of 197. The B-Class champion is Lee Whelly with a two-day gross score of 192. Last to finish was the A-Flight and after two days of competition and a two-day gross score of 175, the 2017 Ladies’ Club Champion is Liz Curran.
Starting with the D-Flight for the men, the D-Class Champion is John Toccalino with a two-day gross score of 182. The C-Class Champion is Terry Mason with a two-day gross score of 173. The C and D Flights were played from the “white tees”. The A and B flights were played from the “blue tees”. The B-Class Champion is Tom Pulcine with a two-day gross score of 173. The A-Flight had a very exciting finished. Of course, when the final group arrived at hole 18, the patio was full of other participants, other non-playing members, spouses and friends. Everyone watching were treated to an exciting finish. The final four players teed off 18, all tied for the lead. As they arrived at the 18th green, Greg Nezan was at the back of the green laying 3, Bob Austin just off the bottom left of the green laying 2 and Marty Wells hitting a perfect approach shot was laying 2 about 12 feet below the cup. Greg chipped first and based on his body language hit a poor shot, but the ball hopped on the green and rolled across the top of the green and dropped into the hole for a par. Bob Austin chipped next and got it up close to the cup to be now laying 3. Marty Wells then was next to go. Marty then brought an end to the competition by rolling in his putt for a birdie to win the Club Championship by one. Marty’s two-day gross score was 158. So, with that birdie our 2017 Men’s Club Champion is Marty Wells.

The random draw winners from the Championships were: Stephanie Lemaire; Hannah Chiarelli; Gail Nezan; Jean Broadfoot; Larry Weatherley; Peter Finnigan; George Acton; Luis Ferreira; and John Cook.
With the beautiful sunny day, we were able to have a party-on-the-patio. There was a large turnout of many non-playing members, spouses and friends. Everyone seemed to have a very enjoyable time. There was a BBQ and an opportunity to participant in the games-of-chance.
The first game-of-chance was “cut cards draw”. There were four winners of $40 each, they were: Lee Whelly; Hannah Chiarelli; Luis Ferreira; and Sandy Finnigan.
The 50/50 draw winners of $150 each were: John Goold and Jean Broadfoot.
Another new event this year was a betting game. There were 11 teams created with two ladies and two men with equal team handicaps. Anyone could place a $5 bet on any or all teams. The gross scores of the Sunday round determined the winning team of low gross. The winning team made up of Karen Acton, Stephanie Lemaire, Marty Wells and David Green won with a total team score of 85 over par. The following individuals each won $80 having bet on the winning team: Susan Gillean, George Acton, Luis Ferreira, Karen Acton, Greg White, Marty Wells, Christine Buckley, David Green and Gary Froats. To further enhance the betting game Greg Robertson donated RedBlacks tickets with only the betting winners having a chance to win. Luis Ferreira won the tickets.
Our thanks to Cedarhill G&CC for offering food & beverage specials after the round on Sunday.

2017 Senior Club Championships
The Cedarhill Senior Club Championship was held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 and Sunday,
August 6, 2017. Forty (40) members took part in what were two great days of golf. There were
18 ladies and 22 men.
The Ladies had a very exciting finish with two ladies tied for low-net after 36 holes of golf, with
a net-score of 141. Susan Gillean and Miriam O’Grady took part in the three-hole playoff, but
remained tied. They continued for a fourth hole, in which Susan prevailed and therefore
becomes the Cedarhill 2017 Ladies Senior Club Champion. Susan also recorded the low-gross
with a 2-day score of 175 and will represent Cedarhill in the OVGA Tournament of Champions.
Miriam then finished second and Gail Nezan with a score of 142 finished third. Given that Susan
becomes the low-net winner and can only hold one trophy, the low-gross also needed to be
decided by a sudden-death playoff. Liz Curran and Sandy Finnigan returned to the 18th hole
after finished tied with a two-day gross score of 178. Liz won the playoff on the first hole
The Men’s event was also very tight, with only one stroke separating the top two low-net

2-day score of 134 – 6 strokes below par. John Toccalino was one stroke back at 135. Denis
Verdon was third with a score of 140. The low gross event was very tight with 5 players within
four stokes. Jim Brown won the low-gross and will represent Cedarhill at the OVGA Tournament

Ryder Cup 2017
On Saturday, June 10, 2017 the men played a new event – Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup is a team event with two (2) teammates playing matches against the opposing team. We had 28 players in total, therefore two teams of 14 players. The front nine was played as a two-man scramble and the back nine a two-man net-best-ball. After the 7 matches were played the two teams were tied…so everyone won!
Everyone had a great time, but the men failed to take any pictures, other than the scorecard. Despite what Greg White wrote on the scorecard, both teams won.
George Acton won the closest to the pin on #5 and Ross McEwan won #14. The three random draws were won by Jim Niles, Jeff Avery and Bob Austin.

The other fun event was the ‘Mini-stick Closest to the Pin on #8’ which was won by Sandy Finnigan. Opening Get Acquainted Scramble
May 13, 2017
After a reset caused by all the rain we have had this spring, we held Cedarhill’s first member golf event of 2017 – the Opening Get Acquainted Scramble. We had thirty-three (33) golfers participate, however, given the weather forecast, we did have a few cancellations.
Although the focus was on fun, we did acknowledge the winning foursome with a low-round of 65. The winning team was: Connie Froats, Jim Niles, Ron Nezan and Ross McEwan. The most honest foursome, with a score of 76 was: Joan Barriault, Anne Robson, Nathan Dagenais and Jack Dagenais.
Justin Scanlon won the ball-drop – throwing a ball onto the 18th green to the hole – some 60-70 feet away and having the ball find the bottom of the cup. As it turned out, it was only the second ball toss of the day. Justin is reconsidering his putting stroke!
In Chase-the-Ace, the four aces were found by: Richard Lessard, Ross McEwan, David Green and Judy Genereaux. Each won $50.00. The random draws from $25 to $15 were won by: Kathy Pope, Jill Finlin, Anne Robson, Kathy Pulcine and Nathan Dagenais.
Thanks to Karan Acton for organizing the fun games. We also want to thank all the staff at Cedarhill for all their support.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our next event – Mixed Chapman Scramble on Saturday, May 27th.
